  • Reinforces language development through magazines, newspapers, and books.
  • Demonstrates proper care, usage of library books, and behavior in library and computer lab.
  • Participates in and/or experiences various forms of the fine arts such as plays, story telling, singing and dance.
  • Identifies the parts of a book & can use table of contents.
  • Shows an awareness of geographic story settings on a map or globe.
  • Uses library visit to develop lifelong reading enjoyment.

Second Grade

  • Uses reading programs on computer, i.e. Scholastic Reading Counts.
  • Participates in library system.
  • Demonstrates ability to listen attentively to audio tapes and video presentations.
  • Reinforces language development through magazines, newspapers, and books. Demonstrates proper care, usage of library books, and behavior in library.
  • Participates and/or experiences various forms of the fine arts such as plays, storytelling, singing and dance.

  • Utilizes library visits to develop lifelong reading enjoyment.
  • Utilizes reference materials.

Third Grade

  • Participates in library system and computer lab.
  • Demonstrates ability to listen attentively to audio tapes, video presentations and PowerPoint presentations in lab.
  • Reinforces language development through magazines, newspapers, and books, computer programs and the Internet.
  • Demonstrates proper care, usage of library books, and behavior in library and computer lab.
  • Recognizes call numbers and locates books in the library.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Acquires knowledge of and utilizes resource materials including dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus, atlas and electronic sources.
  • Utilizes library visits to develop lifelong reading enjoyment.
  • Utilizes information technology as a tool and as a resource for learning and skillbuilding, (e.g. uses spreadsheet programs to generate charts and graphs to illustrate mathematical problems or uses electronic books for reading) Scholastic Reading Counts.

Fourth Grade

  • Utilizes the card catalog or data base to locate appropriate books and information.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Dewey Decimal System. Demonstrates ability to listen to and evaluate various forms of media.
  • Reinforces language development through use of a variety of print and non/print media. Maintains proper library etiquette.
  • Acquires knowledge of and utilizes resource materials such as: dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus, atlas, newspaper, computer and the Internet.
  • Utilizes library visits to develop lifelong reading enjoyment.
  • Utilizes reference materials.

Fifth Grade
