Human Sexuality 5-8

Parents have the primary responsibility to teach their children
education in sexuality. Star of the Sea School helps students in Grades Five through Eight to form proper attitudes from their earliest years through catechesis in human sexuality, adhering to the Diocesan policies and consensus curriculum competenicies. Students are taught human sexuality within the context of overall child development.

The school physical education teacher, school counselor and/or school nurse facilitate this instruction, presenting an integrated view of development including physical, sexual, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Particular attention is provided to the role of self-control,
self-discipline, prayer, and the reception of the sacraments as elements in developing a Christian approach to sexuality.
