COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Happy New Year! The new year is a great time to try new things. Something you can do that will reap big rewards not only this year, but in years to come, is give your child more
responsibility. Whether it is allowing them to dress themselves, take on a new chore, or manage an allowance responsibility, there are plenty of ways to give children opportunities to prove their ability to us and themselves. Self-esteem - our confidence in ourselves and our abilities and our willingness to take risks - comes from the knowledge that we are capable. We only learn this by doing. So please, even if it takes more time, or is not done quite right the way you would like it, let (and make) your kids do a lot more this year than they did last year. They may gripe, but they'll actually love it!
