JOINT LANGUAGE ARTS and SCIENCE UNIT

My Life with the Chimpanzees is the fascinating autobiography by one of the world's most celebrated naturalists, Jane Goodall.  In language arts, students will read the text and write a realistic fiction novella, or short novel, that parallels Jane Goodall’s book.  The variable will be the species of animal that is studied.  This assignment will be broken down into chapters, which resemble individual essays.  The majority of the animal research will be incorporated into the third chapter.  One focus of our study will be plagiarism.  To evaluate students' understanding of plagiarism, our English teacher, Mrs. Bowen, will provide the only resource on the chosen animal.  Outside sources may only be used for illustrations.
