| CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FORENSICS COMPETITION 2009 |
| Six junior high students competed in the Forensics Tournament for Tidewater Catholic Middle Schools on
Saturday, April 4. Taylor, Grade 7, won first place in the Impromptu Category. She was
given a randomly selected topic, “Homework for Middle School Students,” and four minutes to
prepare a 2-4 minute speech. Another Grade 7 student, Julianna, won second place in the Declamation
Category, reciting Franklin D. Roosevelt’s first inaugural speech. Other team members included
Caitlin, Grade 8 and Derek, Pauline, Michael in Grade 7. The Team Moderator was Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Bowen.
Did you know that in the 2008 competition, the team's first year competing, a Grade 7student was awarded first place in the Declamation Division for reading a speech written by Mark Twain? |

| CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FORENSICS COMPETITION 2008 |
Sixth and Seventh Graders competed in April. One of our Seventh Grade Girls was awarded first place in the Declamation Division for reading a speech written by Mark Twain. "We all learned a great deal and we're eager to apply that knowledge next year," said forensics coach, Mrs. Bowen. This is the team's first year competing. |

FLEET RESERVE CONTEST |

One of Mrs. Bowen's seventh grade students won second place in the 2008 Fleet Reserve Association's annual Americanism Essay Contest. Kempsville Branch 99 will award this student a savings bond and a plaque at a special ceremony in February. The theme the contest was "Why I Am Proud To Be An American".

| CARGO - A - GO - GO! 2007 |
| Nine sixth grade students presented at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's WaterWays Student Conference on Thursday, June 7, 2007. The students have been studying and preparing for this pilot program and have volunteered to postpone their summer vacation to present with Junior High Science Coordinator and teacher, Ms. Hampton, at this first-ever conference. HEIFER INTERNATIONAL - MRS. PAUL'S CLASS |
Mrs. Paul's 2006-2007 First Grade class wanted to buy animals from Heifer International. One enterprising student contributed the proceeds from her lemonade stand of $50.00 to the class' Lenten Fund, bringing their total to $190.00. They decided as a class which animals to buy. Way to go! |
