GREETINGS FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Welcome to Star of the Sea School. I am a registered nurse and will be on duty in the health clinic each school day. The clinic is equipped to provide first-aid for school-related illnesses and injuries and is not intended to take the place of parent-directed medical care. I will follow any doctor’s written instruction for treatment which may need to be done during the time the student is in school.
Your child’s clinic visits will be documented and a record of each visit will be provided to the student to take home. I try to maintain your current home and work numbers, as well as emergency contact persons. I often talk with my student’s parents so that we may work together to ensure your child’s participation in his/her school day. Please inform me of any health concerns or special needs your child may have.
It is hoped that I have addressed most of your questions and concerns. If not, please call me anytime at the school, 428.8400 x.14 or by e-mail at jennifer.harold@sosschool.org.
Sincerely,
Jennifer L. Harold, R.N., B.S.N
MEDICATION POLICY
It is Star of the Sea School’s requirement that any student required to take medication during school hours must have a written order from a doctor and signed permission from the parent on the Physician’s Request for Administration of Medication form, available from the school office/clinic. NO medication will be given without this written permission and all portions of the form completed. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Medications must be brought directly to the clinic by the parent or guardian and must be in the original prescription bottle with the student’s name, medication name, time and dosage on it. Please know that you may come to the clinic any time to give medication to your child. Your identification will be requested.
SCREENINGS
During the school year, students will have height, weight, vision, hearing and dental screenings done. Students in Grades Six through Eight will also have blood pressure screening done. If at any time during the school year you have a question about your child’s hearing or vision, please contact the school nurse.
Scoliosis screenings for students in Grades Four through Eight are conducted only with written permission of the parent. You will receive more information regarding this screening at a later date.
