Volunteers
ATTENTION ALL VOLUNTEERS
DIOCESAN PROCEDURES REGARDING VOLUNTEERING WITH CHILDREN
All volunteers (14 years of age or older) who work with or have regular access to children/youth, shall be screened every four years through:
• The Central Registry of Child Protective Services of the Virginia Department of Social Services
• The electronic screening service, Volunteer Select, (National criminal records, State Sex Offender Registries, identity verification)
In addition, all volunteers (18 years of age or older) that work with or have regular access to children/youth, shall:
• Attend VIRTUS Training Program. (Sessions offered at various parishes/schools throughout the area.) Register online at www.virtusonline.org.
• Provide documentation that you are free from communicable tuberculosis
Only those who have completed all of the above steps will be permitted to have regular access to children/youth. This includes but is not limited to: helping teachers in classrooms, driving on field trips, helping in the dining room, on the playground, in the library, etc.
